We are aware that many people primarily associate Flachau with winter activities. Perhaps this is because they have never visited us during the warmer months. We have gathered our personal favorite excursions for you—activities that we enjoy ourselves and recommend from the bottom of our hearts.

1. Johannes Waterfall in Untertauern

The water plunges around 60 meters down steep rock faces: a natural spectacle that inspires us time and again. The approximately one-hour hike to the waterfall follows the “Alles Alm” adventure trail starting from the Gnadenalm in Untertauern. The secured passage directly behind the waterfall, which you pass on the way back, is particularly impressive.

2. Alpaca trekking in Wagrain

At Kitzsteingut in Wagrain, Bernhard Maurer lives out his passion for alpacas. At around 1,300 meters above sea level, he runs his farm in a quiet, secluded location and offers guided hikes with the animals. Walking through nature together with the alpacas is great fun and has a wonderfully slowing effect.

3. Cooling off at the Reitdorf swimming lake

The two swimming lakes in Reitdorf are quickly accessible by bike and offer an ideal alternative to the hotel pool. You can borrow bicycles from us at loj free of charge. Perfect for hot summer days.

4. Hike to the Tappenkarsee

A quick heads-up: this tour is demanding and requires good footwear as well as a certain level of fitness. In return, one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Alps awaits you at the top.

5. Eisriesenwelt Werfen

Even the ride on Austria’s steepest cable car is an experience in itself. In the world’s largest ice cave, guided tours through a fascinating world of ice await you. Even in summer, temperatures here are below freezing, so warm clothing and sturdy shoes are absolutely essential. We like to call it a “cooling off of a special kind.”

6. A stop at the Kurzeggalm in Kleinarl

Here, bread and bacon are still homemade, and a perfect “Brettljause” (platter of local delicacies) awaits after your hike or bike tour. The route leads through forests and meadows up to 1,709 meters and rewards you with a view that makes every effort worthwhile.

7. A visit to Ennsei Hans

The “Ennsei Hans” is a true Flachau local legend and welcomes his guests at the Hintere Marbachalm with snacks, a small schnapps, and a witty remark. Our tip: be sure to try the fluffy Kaiserschmarren for dessert.

8. Liechtenstein Gorge

While the Liechtenstein Gorge is anything but a hidden gem, for us it is one of the “must-see” attractions in the Salzburg region. The path leads about one kilometer deep into the gorge via walkways, bridges, and stairs. If you are lucky, you might even spot rainbows in the fine water mist.

9. Forest, forest, forest

In summer, we are often drawn back to the forest for natural cooling. The newly designed “Path of Good Wishes” is perfect for this. Along the circular route, 45 panels with positive thoughts serve as reminders of things that are often overlooked in everyday life.

10. Free travel to Salzburg by public transport

With the Guest Mobility Ticket, you can use public transport throughout the entire Salzburg region free of charge. It is perfect for exploring the city of Salzburg for a day. Strolling through the old town, enjoying a coffee by the Salzach river, and then heading back to the mountains—a combination we love.
