For us, a fun tobogganing trip is as much a part of winter as skiing and ski touring. Perhaps because we grew up with such evenings: a leisurely ascent, a warm hut, and then a (sometimes competitive) ride down into the valley. The Brennhütt’n is exactly such a place that we associate with fun tobogganing adventures of this kind – and that we recommend to anyone who wants to experience Flachau the way we know and love it.
First the ascent, then the pleasure
For those who prefer an easier option, the hut and the starting point of the toboggan run can be conveniently reached by taxi. However, we recommend the walk up through the forest, as the refreshment stop is twice as enjoyable after the ascent. In about an hour, you can walk from Hotel loj up the well-prepared path. Don’t worry, no top athletic performance is required for the route; it is easily manageable for everyone.
Once at the top, one of the region’s most original huts awaits, run by Norbert senior and junior. The fireplace crackles, it smells of soup and Kaiserschmarrn, and you immediately feel that sense of “We’ll sit here for a little while longer.”
Illuminated toboggan run
After the stop for refreshments, it gets really fun: the 1.9-kilometer-long, illuminated toboggan run takes you rapidly down into the valley. Sleds can be rented directly on site. Good footwear is important, we also recommend a helmet and ski goggles for the professional look – and of course for safety.
Once at the bottom, your cheeks are warm, your hands are cold, and your smile is usually pretty broad. All that remains is the question: Shall we go up again or call it a day?
