Many believe that ski touring is only for athletic professionals who can effortlessly carve through deep snow. We think it can be primarily one thing: a really nice way to enjoy the day in nature. And that also as a beginner. The only important thing is to choose a route that is fun, not too challenging, and still offers a bit of summit bliss.

For those who are planning their first ski tour of the year or simply want to get started slowly, we will reveal our favorite route for beginners in the Flachau region: the ascent to the Lackenalm.

Comfortably through forest and meadows

The starting point of the beginner tour is the parking lot at the Gasthof Sattelbauer. The journey is possible with an SUV in good weather conditions, alternatively you can book a taxi via our reception. From the parking lot, it’s a leisurely stroll through the snowy forest, following the hiking trail, always slightly uphill. After about 45 minutes you reach the Lackenalm – a perfect spot to take a breather, enjoy the panorama and take the first glimpse of the summit. This is the end for beginners. The descent via the forest road is ideal for trying out the first turns.

Those who already have some experience can climb for about another hour to the Lackenkogel (2,013 m). Here it only gets steeper in the upper section, the last slope with mountain pines requires technique and attention.

The best is saved for last

The descent largely follows the ascent. From the Lackenalm you can also choose the forest road – ideal for those who want to take it easy. Once at the bottom, an additional highlight awaits: the Buchteln at the Sattelbauer. The perfect refreshment and reward.
